PHI Database ID 7903 https://passivehouse-database.org/index.php?lang=en#d_7903

Description:

This rural house has very generous glazing to take in the views to surrounding hills. In addition to a large kitchen/ dining/ living area it has a Gallery for entertaining guests which opens on to a north facing court sheltered from south, east and west winds by the pavilion form of the building.

Various types of construction were investigated but ultimately the local builder preferred standard 90mm timber frame with SHD glasswool between the studs. To compensate, the roof has R10 glasswool which only adds a few thousand dollars over using Australian Code standard. The floor has a particleboard deck over insulation above the slab. Windows are double glazed Kommerling Upvc from Blue Sky. Due to the remoteness of the site, the house is totally off-grid.
